The pond -moonlight, by Edward Steichen, sold for record price
A 1904 photograph by Edward Steichen, entitled “The pond – moonlight” sold for $2.9 million at Sotheby’s, smashing the previous auction record for a photograph, the $1.25 million set by Richard Prince’s “Untitled (Cowboy)”
The 41x 50.8 cm. photograph, which somewhat resembles Ralph Albert Blakelock’s nightscapes, was previously in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, owner of another of the three copies of the work.
