Christie’s will auction a group of four important paintings by Gustav Klimt
The Klimt Frenzy, Vol. II: after the much-hyped sale of the Adele Bloch-Bauer II (1912) to the cosmetic magnate Ronald Lauder for $135 million, turning it into the most expensive painting ever sold, Christie’s New York will auction a group of four important paintings by Gustav Klimt, including the second version of the famous Adele .
The question is evident: how much? Although most of the Art market experts think that the price of the second version will not reach the exorbitant price of the first one, the collection of the four paintings can easily surpass the already legendary sum.
In addition to the Adele , Christie’s will also auction three landscapes of identical format (43 ¼ – 43 ¼ inches, 110 – 110 cm .) Buchenwald (1903) is a nice sous-bois scene, whose melancholy contrasts with the floral exhuberance of Apfelbaum I (1911-12) Häuser in Unterach am Aterres (1916) is a typical Klimt’s landscape, quite similar to other sold in 1997 for £14.5 million
