Goya removed from auction in Spain due to authenticity doubts ]]>
The Spanish authorities have removed from auction a work by Francisco de Goya y Lucientes, entitled “Saints Adoring the Holy Sacrament”, due to recent doubts about its authenticity
The painting, measuring 50 x 70 cm., was going to be auctioned in Madrid for a starting price of 1.2 million euros ($1.55 million) The work will now be examined by a group of experts from the Museo del Prado in the Spanish capital.
This is not the only “fake case” detected in Spain in recent times: a few weeks ago, a group of forgers were about to sell a fake Velázquez for €900,000 (more than $1 million), besides other less valuable pieces. You can read more about it in this link
