Lucian Freud’s portrait of nude Kate Moss goes for $7 million
Lucian Freud has been the main protagonist in the Christie’s auction, in which his canvas “Red Haired Man on a Chair” was sold for 4.1 million pounds (almost $7 million), an auction record for the artist. Nevertheless, most of the attention in the sale was focused in another work by Freud, his “Naked Portrait 2002”, sold for 3.9 million pounds, depicting the famous top-model Kate Moss, in an advanced state of pregnancy.
“Disappointing”: That was the Word used by Freud to depict this portrait depicting Moss, who has expressed her desire of being portrayed by the veteran artist. Surely, “disappointing” was not the word used by Christie’s chiefs to express their opinion about the sale, in which, in addition to both Freud’s paintings, works by contemporary artists like Chillida or Barceló were sold well above their estimate.
