Damien Hirst: “For the love of God”
Damien Hirst’s skull sells for $100 million
August 30th 2007 – Damien Hirst has finally made it: he has sold his controversial diamond-filled skull -entitled For the love of God- for the asking price of $100 million. But he has made more than that: he has killed any trace of logic which remained at the Art market.

A few days ago, Hirst anonymously auctioned one of his last works, which went for a few hundred dollars (later resold for $200,000 after Hirst admitted the authority of the work) while a work depicting two rats in a sewer -believed to be a work by Hirst- sold for almost $10,000 – it was created by two students. But with the skull sale, Damien has finally revealed the nonsense of the Art market, and has clearly established himself as the most sought-after living artist.
Records broken by Hirst’s skull:
It’s the most expensive sculpture ever sold
It’s the most expensive work by a living artist
Experts said that the value of the 8,601 diamonds is much lower than the $100 million paid for the work.
