On view at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, “Dutch and Flemish Masterworks from the Rose-Marie and Eijk van Otterloo Collection” presents over 60 paintings from the Dutch and Flemish Golden Age.
The Rose-Marie and Eijk van Otterloo Collection is widely recognized as of the world’s finest private collections in its kind, including masterworks by Rembrandt, Frans Hals, Gerrit Dou and Jan Steen. It was first exhibited in its entirety at the Peabody Essex Museum early this year, and then traveled to the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. The Museum of Fine Arts of Houston is the final venue of this tour.
Highlights of the exhibition include Rembrandt van Rijn’s “Portrait of Aeltje Uylenburgh” (1632) and Gerrit Dou’s lovely “Dog at Rest” (1650), a nice “Winter landscape” by Jacob van Ruisdael, and Albert Cuyp “Orpheus Charming the Animals” (1640).
