Michelangelo Pistoletto at the Serpentine Gallery In the exhibition ‘The Mirror of Judgement’, Michelangelo Pistoletto creates a labyrinth that guides visitors through the Serpentine Gallery, discovering several sculptures.

The artist describes the labyrinth as “a winding and unforeseeable road that leads us to the place of revelation, of knowledge“. According to the press note of the exhibition, the labyrinth “alters the visitor’s understanding of the architecture, making each one a fundamental part of the work.“
Born in 1933 in Biella, Pistoletto is widely acknowledged as one of the main representatives of the “Arte Povera” movement. In the early 1960s he received critical acclaim for his series of Mirror Paintings. Later that decade, Pistoletto established “The Zoo”, a workshop open to artists and public that centred on collaboration and performance. In 1998, the artist created “Cittadellarte: Fondazione Pistoletto”, which promotes the study and promotion of creativity of all kinds
A theorist and activist, Pistoletto uses art to inspire and produce social change. According to the press note, “in 2004 (Pistoletto) announced the most recent phase ofhis work, the Third Paradise, an imagined new level of human civilization”. ‘The Mirror of Judgement’ includes elements from the Third Paradise, such as “The Spider Weaver” (2009).
