Egyptian antiquities from the British Museum at VMFA The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts presents “Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb”, an international touring exhibition of Egyptian antiquities from the British Museum.

This important exhibition features more than 100 artifacts; and explores life, mummification and afterlife in ancient Egypt. According to the press note published by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, “Visitors to ‘Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb’ will be immersed in the life and afterlife of of Nesperennub, a temple priest who lived 3,000 years ago”.
“Ancient Egyptian culture developed more than 5,000 years ago and its pyramids, mummies, and beliefs about the afterlife have fascinated people for centuries”, explains Alex Nyerges, Director of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The exhibition includes a 3-D film narrated by Patrick Stewart (who played the role of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the Star Trek movie series), explaining the secrets of life and death in ancient Egypt.
In addition to the mummy of Nesperennub (from the 22nd Dynasty), highlights of the exhibition includes a Judgment Scene from the Book of the Dead (late 26th Dynasty, about 550-525 BC), an impressive Inner-coffin of Seni (12th Dynasty, about 1850 BC) and a beautiful Face from Coffin (18th Dynasty, c. 1400 BC)
