FotoPres began in 1982 in order to publicize the work of photojournalists, with a special attention for those professionals working in some of the most dangerous countries in the world.
The 135 photographs displayed in this edition show the hard living conditions in those countries, and the injustices suffered by its habitants. Harsh documents of high artistic and journalistic value, like the “Gender violence in Pakistan” series by Emilio Morenatti (first prize), which shows the faces of several women in Pakistan who have been attacked with acid, usually by their husbands or relatives.
In the same vein of social criticism are the second and third prize winners: “post-electoral violence in Kenya”, by Walter Astrada (Buenos Aires, Argentina, 1974) and “Lebanon, between sea and fire” by Alfonso Moral (Valladolid, 1977). In “Khusro. Transgender in Pakistan”, Marta Ramoneda shows the difficult situation of transsexuals in Pakistan.
Fonseca College also broadcasts the documentary “The other side of the camera,” in which several photojournalists exhibiting at the show talk about their work.
