ARCOmadrid continues to be a space for cultural cross-fertilisation between Latin America and Europe. One of its most exciting new features, attracting prestigious figures in the art world, will be the 1st Meeting of European and Latin American Museums, led by Agustín Pérez-Rubio, the director of MUSAC, León, and Marcelo Mattos Araujo, executive director of Pinacoteca de Sao Paulo.
Encouraging collecting is also the focus of the First Collector Programme coordinated by Elisa Hernando, from the consultancy Arte Global. For the second year in a row it will offer advice in the context of the fair on starting a collection and acquiring works of art at ARCOmadrid.
The Netherlands, guest of honour at ARCOmadrid
One of the main attractions of this edition of the fair is FOCUS THE NETHERLANDS, a project supported by the Mondriaan Fund and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Spain, and the participation of the curator Xander Karskens, head of the international contemporary art collection of the Hallen Museum, Haarlem, who was commissioned to select the 14 Dutch galleries participating in the Guest Country programme.
Opening – Young European Galleries
In this new edition, the fair again presents the section Opening: young European galleries, designed for galleries from different European countries which are les than seven years old. This programme was extremely well received in the last edition, and a number of the emerging galleries that took part have expressed an interest in coming back to the fair. On this occasion the galleries were selected by Manuel Segade, curator and art critic, who chose a total of 25 galleries from ten European countries, including two from the Netherlands, suggested by the curator Xander Karskens.
