Musée Picasso, Paris – The world’s greatest collection of works by Pablo Picasso, also exhibits some important pieces of “primitive” Art

Musée Barbier-Mueller, Geneva – A collection of over 7,000 works of art from Africa and Oceania, considered one of the finest in the world

Beyeler Foundation, Basel – This small but rich museum exhibits the art collection of Hildy and Ernst Beyeler, with works by van Gogh or Monet, as well as African works of Art

United Kingdom

The British Museum, London – England’s greatest museum -and one of the best in the world- of Ancient Arts and antiquities, with an excellent collection that includes African and Oceanian art.

National Gallery for Foreign Art, Sofia – Houses a good selection of European paintings, in addition to Asian, African and contemporary Art

Serbia

Museum of African Art, Belgrade – Founded in 1977, it represents the only museum in the country dedicated to the arts and culture of Africa

United States

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York – Arguably America’s greatest museum. Its spectacular collection of African and Oceanic art ranks among the finest in the world.

Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn, New York – Houses an extensive collection of African and Oceanian Art, including a ‘soul container’ from Guinea Bissau

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston – one of the oldest and most respected Art institutions of North America. One of his most interesting masterpieces is a royal pipe from Cameroon

The Art Institute of Chicago – houses one of the most outstanding Art collections of the United States, featuring masterpieces such as a figure of a horse and rider, created in Mali in the 14th century

Museum of Art, Cleveland – One of the most complete art collections in America, its collections of African and Oceanic Art comprises more than 250 works

Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit – One of the greatest Museums in North America, with a great collection of African Art, including a female ‘Guro’ figure from the collection of Tristan Tzara

Menil Collection, Houston – This museum, designed by Renzo Piano, houses a great collection of African Art, including an ‘Atwonzen’ from Cameroon

Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles – One of the best Art collections in the country, among its highlights we find an impressive figure from New Guinea

DeYoung Museum, San Francisco – One of the most interesting art collections in America, exhibiting African and early American art

South Africa

South Africa National Gallery, Cape Town – Established in 1872, this Museum houses a collection of European paintings and drawings from 17th to 20th century

Pretoria Art Museum, Pretoria – Founded in 1964, but with collections that began to form in the 1930s, it exhibits modern and pre-colonial African art.

Sudan

National Museum of Sudan, Khartoum – One of the most important Museums in Africa, shows the rich Sudanese heritage, including a bust of Queen Hatshepsut

Zimbabwe

National Gallery of Zimbabwe, Harare – Zimbabwe’s National Museum, exhibit a collection of artifacts from the country’s heritage, as well as contemporary Art

Australia

National Gallery of Australia, Canberra – The most important Art Museum in Australia, its exhibition of Indigenous Australian art shows pieces from the 18th to the 20th century

Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane – Exhibits a very good collection of Indigenous Australian Art, as well as Asian Art and contemporary Australian Art

Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney – Exhibits an interesting collection of Art, the Gallery is specially strong in Indigenous Australian and Asian Art

Auckland Art Gallery, Auckland – Houses a large Art collection, from Maori artifacts to an interesting selection of European paintings and drawings

Te Papa / Museum of New Zealand, Wellington – This large Museum exhibits a good selection of New Zealand paintings, as well as Aboriginal and Native Art

Fiji

Fiji Museum, Suva – Fiji’s National Museum exhibits a large collection of Oceanic artifacts, from the prehistory to the contemporary artists
