Hamilton’s most famous work is “Just What Is It that Makes Today’s Homes So Different, So Appealing?“, a collage created in 1956. Made of images taken mainly from American magazines, the 26 cm × 24.8 cm (10.25 in × 9.75 in) collage was the first icon of Pop Art, although other artists -such as Sir Eduardo Luigi Paolozzi- had already created Pop Art works years before.

The title of the work -and the main template- is taken from an advertisement in Ladies Home Journal. The strongman is is Irwin Koszewski, while Josephine Jo Baer -a minimalist artist- has claimed to be the woman in the couch.
