Raíces – Frida Kahlo at Sotheby’s

MAY 2006. A dramatic full-length self-portrait by the Mexican artist Frida Kahlo has been sold for $5.6 million at the Latin-American Art auction at Sotheby’s New York. The work, which had never been sold at auction, was included in the celebrated monographic exhibition about the tormented Diego Rivera’s wife organized by the Tate Gallery in 2005.

Another spectacular price was the $3.7 million paid for “4 standing women”, one of the most famous sculptures by Francisco Zúñiga, dated 1974. Two works by Fernando Botero also surpassed the one million dollars barrier, showing the strength of the Latin-American Art market.
