Since its first edition in 1970, Art Basel has developed into one of the most important, if not the most important, contemporary art fairs in the world. This year, more than 300 galleries from 35 countries will show works by over 2,500 artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. The show includes works by masters such as Constantin Brancusi, Richard Serra or Lucio Fontana; as well as works by emerging artists.

The Art Unlimited section features 62 large-scale art projects, Many of them created especially for this art fair. The 17,000-square-meter exhibition hall will exhibit works by long-established artists – such as Carl Andre, John Baldessari, Dan Flavin or Anish Kapoor- and emerging stars such as Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla, Mark Leckey or Sarah Morris.

This year’s Art Parcours sector presents artworks at various historical locations in the city of Basel, including fishing houses along the river, sections of the old city wall, the Haus Zum Hohen Dolder and the St. Alban church, as well as various public sites throughout the area.

Art Basel’s sister event in America, Art Basel Miami Beach, will take place December 1 – 4, 2011, in Miami Beach, Florida.
